Privacy Contact: stories@wtfchronicles.com
1. Our Privacy Promise
At WTF Chronicles, we believe the best stories are shared when people feel comfortable, respected, and in control of their information.
Some stories are funny. Some are embarrassing. Some involve experiences people would rather not have connected to their names.
We take that seriously.
This Privacy Policy explains how WTF Chronicles LLC collects, uses, stores, discloses, and protects personal information.
Submitting a story does not mean agreeing to have it published, and it does not automatically subscribe you to marketing emails.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
Information you voluntarily provide:
Your name or preferred nickname.
Email address and other contact information.
Written stories and personal experiences.
Photographs, videos, audio recordings, and voice memos.
Anonymity preferences.
Publication permissions and consent records.
Newsletter subscription choices.
Messages or inquiries sent to us.
Information collected through website technology:
Our website and service providers may collect technical information such as IP addresses, browser types, device information, referral pages, usage activity, and cookies or similar identifiers.
The exact categories depend on the tools and tracking features enabled on our website.
3. How We Use Information
We may use information to:
Receive and organize story submissions.
Privately review and evaluate potential stories.
Contact contributors regarding submissions.
Request clarification or publication permission.
Publish or adapt approved content within the permissions granted.
Honor anonymity and privacy preferences.
Respond to questions and privacy requests.
Deliver newsletters and marketing messages to people who have separately subscribed.
Maintain website functionality, security, and operational records.
Comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not treat story submission as automatic consent to public disclosure or promotional emails.
4. Story Publication and Anonymity
We will not intentionally publish an unpublished submission without affirmative publication permission.
When a contributor requests anonymous publication, we will not intentionally disclose their name, email address, or private contact information in the published material.
We may remove or alter identifying details where appropriate.
However, unusual events, locations, relationships, or circumstances may allow someone familiar with a story to recognize the people involved.
We cannot guarantee that an anonymized story will be impossible to identify.
We may decline to publish content when privacy risks cannot be reasonably addressed.
5. Photos, Videos, and Audio
Uploaded media may contain identifying details, including faces, voices, locations, metadata, or information about other people.
We may privately review these materials to evaluate submissions.
We will seek separate authorization before publicly using a contributor's identifiable voice, image, or likeness.
We may also require permission from other identifiable individuals when legally necessary.
6. How We Share Information
We do not sell contributor contact information to data brokers.
We may disclose information to:
Service providers: Companies that assist with website hosting, forms, customer relationship management, file storage, email delivery, analytics, and technical operations.
Authorized personnel: Team members and contractors who need access for legitimate business purposes and are subject to appropriate confidentiality expectations.
Legal or safety recipients: Authorities, legal advisers, or other appropriate parties where disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to address legal obligations or serious safety concerns.
Public audiences: Only for contributor content and personal details authorized for publication, subject to the agreed permissions.
We do not publicly share private contributor contact information as part of our ordinary storytelling activities.
7. Technology Providers
WTF Chronicles currently uses or intends to use services including:
Squarespace for website hosting and functionality.
GoHighLevel for forms, surveys, contact management, and communications.
Dropbox for submitted file storage or transfer.
Email and social media platforms for communications and content distribution.
These providers may process information on our behalf under their respective contractual arrangements.
Their processing practices, locations, and retention periods may vary.
8. Email and Marketing
Providing an email address with a story submission allows us to communicate about that submission.
It does not automatically enroll you in our newsletter or promotional communications.
Marketing subscriptions are voluntary.
Subscribers may unsubscribe using the link provided in applicable marketing emails or by contacting us.
We may continue sending necessary nonmarketing communications relating to an existing submission or privacy request.
9. Cookies and Analytics
Our website may use essential cookies and, where enabled, analytics or marketing technologies.
These technologies may help maintain website functionality, understand visitor activity, and evaluate website performance.
Where required by applicable law, we will provide appropriate notices and choices regarding nonessential tracking.
Our cookie practices and any opt-out mechanisms should reflect the actual tracking technologies enabled on the website.
10. Data Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational steps designed to protect personal information.
These measures may include restricted access, account security controls, and the use of reputable service providers.
No online system can be guaranteed completely secure.
We cannot promise that unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss will never occur.
If a security incident occurs, we will assess our obligations and provide notifications when required by applicable law.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to manage submissions, maintain consent records, operate our services, fulfill legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
Unpublished submissions may be deleted upon verified request, subject to legitimate legal or operational retention requirements.
Published content and associated permissions may require different retention periods.
Backup copies may remain temporarily until overwritten or deleted according to applicable provider procedures.
Before publication of this Policy, WTF Chronicles LLC should establish and disclose its actual retention periods or criteria for submissions, uploaded files, contact records, and consent records.
12. Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law, you may request to:
Access personal information we maintain about you.
Correct inaccurate information.
Delete eligible personal information.
Withdraw marketing consent.
Update your anonymity preferences.
Withdraw publication consent for future uses, subject to the publication agreement.
Ask questions about how your information is handled.
Send requests to stories@wtfchronicles.com.
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling requests to protect against unauthorized disclosure or deletion.
Some information may need to be retained for legal compliance, security, or the documentation of previously authorized uses.
13. Previously Published Content
If you request removal of previously authorized published content, we will evaluate the request under the applicable publication agreement and make reasonable efforts to stop new uses and remove content from channels we control.
We cannot guarantee the removal of copies previously downloaded, independently reposted, cached, or distributed by third parties.
14. Children's Privacy
WTF Chronicles story submissions are intended for adults aged 18 and older.
We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children through our submission service.
If we learn that we have improperly collected personal information from a child, we will take appropriate steps consistent with applicable law.
